DVLA Lisence Issues

Twinks,

I think very often people find it a step too far, to actually apologise...

but... it doesn't mean that they haven't heard what was said and recognise they did wrong and feel very inadequate....and hopefully will learn from their error!

....apologies often only come from the brave and confident and from those who believe they are accountable for their actions!

I work in education and write lots of reports about children and support them accessing services and getting the right specialist school placements (They all have special needs) I know I have a responsibility towards them and go OTT to double check facts and write accurate information!

I'm glad you now have the 'corrections' you need and a 'fit to drive' recommendation too - so someone somewhere knows they done you wrong!!

Keep us posted and hope to hear good news soon....

Keld

Another update, just spoken with DVLA and they received the form back from the DVSA today and this is now waiting to be scanned onto their system !!!

I work in an office and to scan a letter and upload takes couple of minutes absolute maximum, so why this process takes the DVLA so long who knows.

Jenny

Hi all,

I'm so sorry to hear you're continuing to experience delays in hearing back from the DVLA.

Our helplines team are able to provide information and advice to anyone with questions or concerns about contacting the DVLA.

The helplines team are able to raise cases of long delays with the DVLA, if:
1. You have been waiting for six months or more, and tried to follow-up.
2. If you use your driving license as a core part of your job, and haven’t heard back for three months

You can also contact the helpline on 0808 800 0303.

Could they also raise delays with the DVLA for those within this thread who live in a rural location where there is no option of public transport. regardless of employment status.

Hi Sea Angler,

To keep things consistent, they will be able to chase delays regardless of employment status, but only if you've been waiting for a period of six months and have been in contact with the DVLA to follow-up.

Phil

Quick update.

I posted my letter of appeal to the DVLA, last Thursday, (29th Jan.), enclosing the new report from my PD nurse and also a letter from my Optician, saying that I passed all the criteria for driving. Also sent a completed D1 form. I rang them yesterday to make sure it had all arrived and also to check that they didn't need anything else from me. Thankfully, they'd received everything.

Jenny, I was told it takes 2 days to scan into the system! It would depend on how busy the medical team analysts were, as to when it would be reviewed and a decision made......could be days or weeks! Basically, how long is a piece of string? I felt so mad, but kept shtum, as I didn't want to jeopardise my appeal.

So, the wait begins..............

Hope you hear about yours soon, Jenny.

Thanks Phil, for the info on when you can step in and assist.

Finally some good news I got my License back and it's for 3 years. I am so happy and also this weekend my daughter has had her first child ( 5 weeks early and a few scares), but mother and baby boy are doing well, so I am at the age of 45 years old a Nan (not Grandmother as some keep trying to call me). So things are looking up.

Good luck to everyone who has commented on my posting and wishing everyone all the best for the future, whatever life & PD throws at us. We have to fight it and try to remain positive and patient, things that seem to be a challenge at time, but then that's life in general.

Best wishes xx

Well done on getting your licence back - how long did the process take?

Hi,

Sent off the forms on May 7th 2015, License returned to me on 18th February 2016, so 9 months and 11 days !!

Wow! I thought it was a matter of weeks - obviously not.

Hi Jen521394  Glad you finally got your licence back eventually!! Congratulations on the birth of your grandson, I have the name of nannie not nan, hope your daughter is coping ok. My daughter is expecting her first (our first granddaughter)  but has actually gone past her date by 6 days, she is booked in for being induced next week, these babies come when they are ready don't they, be it early or late!

Best Wishes - Sheila

Pleased to hear all your good news Jen!

.........I'm still waiting........

Hi Keith,

I have just received my 3 year licence back after only 2 weeks or so.  So Yes, it seems issuing a 3-year licence is pretty standard.  My consultant did say he had "filled out my DVLA form".  In essence, I suppose it depends what the consultant says and how fast (s)he responds.

In response to Phil Reynolds (post 63)

As Phil suggested in his post of 4 Feb, I emailed Parkinson UK with the details of my 18 month running battle with the DVLA on the 5 February.

As no-one called me back after a week or so, I rang the Helpline explaining that, in line with Phil's posting I had sent an email outlining my probs with the DVLA to them and could I speak to the person dealing with the DVLA problems.   The chap I spoke to said he didn't know anything about this and it must be a new campaign so I should speak to one of the campaign team.  He said that he would find out who was dealing with my email and get them to ring me back.  I told him that we always have our answerphone on as we have so many nuisance calls (mainly PPI) but if they left a message I would get back to them.  He said that they can't do that without an instruction from the recipient - so I said to take my say-so as an instruction!

A week later, no one had attempted to contact me, so I again phoned the Helpline and, again, they didn't know anything about a DVLA campaign.  So I asked them for Phil (Reynold's) tel no and rang him direct.  I can't remember exactly what he said now, but he didn't seem to know what was going on with my case and said that someone would be in  touch soon.

Well, I'd heard nothing this morning, so, after yet another wasted call to the DVLA, I rang the Helpline and asked to speak to whoever is dealing with the DVLA-problems campaign.  Yet again, the chap I spoke to knew nothing of any DVLA related actions - he said that I should speak to my local Parkinson UK advisor and he gave me her tel no.    I said that I am sure someone at Parkinson UK has my details and could he put me through to the relevant person - but he just insisted I call my local advisor.

So I did, and I sent her a copy of the emails I'd sent.  She was very nice and tried to be helpful but she said that, until my neurologist sends the correct forms in, there was nothing she (or anyone else at Parkinson UK) could do or say to the DVLA to gee them up.   Well, that's not what I understood from the tone of Phil's posting.

So, a complete waste of time!!

No-one has tried to get in touch (either by phone or email) from Parkinsons UK so, out of desperation, I am posting this to try to get some sort of response.  So much for the clout that Parkinson UK have!!!

Sorry, Phil, I just remembered that you DID tell me the office had been flooded which caused a few problems.

Hi Gaz1403,

I'm sorry to hear about this and understand how frustrating it must be. I have passed this on to the team and someone will be in touch with you soon to discuss this.

Best wishes,

Joanne

(Digital team)

My licence came back and had been extended from 3 years to 5 before next review.

Waiting to see if this has any impact on change from DLA to PIP before celebrating.

Thanks for that, Joanne.

You obviously passed it to the right person as I have just received a call from the DVLA medical dept to say that they have, this morning, issued me with a year's license while they carry out further enquiries.

At last, after almost 18 months, I am able to drive again.  Yippee!!

Glad to hear that Gaz hope it carries on in the right direction after their enquiries to enable you get a licence for longer than a year!!

Sheffy
