Battle briefing

Cpl JP,

Excellent report and recruitment campaign.  Ears have walls or something like that.  Wheres the privates? I hear you say they cannot all be hiding in a bush.

Lcpl   TH

Good Evening Corporal JohnnyParky and Lance Corporal TeeHee and all troops.

There is no question of me leaving the battle front, when soldiers of your caliber show such bravery under constant fire. You are both young and in spite of constant fire and devious tactics continue to fight the enemy Parkinson, who is a ruthless sod with wide range of armoury and quite capable of teaming up with other enemies to cause maximum distress.

I do not wish to demoralise and know that what I’m about to say will not stop your fight.
The bastard has in the last week and a bit been throwing everything at me and hitting me hard causing considerable pain, particularly due to the Dystonia weapon, inflicting it so hard it’s causing diskenesia and giving me problems with fighting back.

I’m fighting like mad but at nearly 80 I feel quite worn out. That is why My dispatches have not been forthcoming. Quite frankly the way things have been any dispatches would have been heavily censored due the amount of expletives and Anglo Saxon adjectives.

My Senior Officer is giving me a lot of attention and that is so soothing.

You are great examples and your spirit fills me with admiration and pride that we have young people willing to fight from the front and kick the bastard where it hurts.

LC TeeHee when I’m back on the front line I will go on creative corner ( a good diversion for those under attack) and answer your profound replies and the forthright and honest replies of other troops.

Keep fighting,
Jules77.

Thank you sir for your acknowledgement, it is appreciated.

I know I speak for not only myself but for the rest of the troops.   If there was a way we could bombard your individual enemy/ unit  from the Parky regiment, we would turn our most vicious attack towards that unit and leave ourselves without defence.

This would give you some respite from the  pain you feel and zap the unit attacking you now.  I hope you take some solace in knowing that if it was possible your troops would take a hit for you.

LCpl TH

Good evening Captain and glad to hear from you but sad to hear your having severe attacks from this sh***y condition and confer with TH sentiments. Though sad could never be demoralised Captain reading how you fight to stay in life's game and be as positive as possible. Yourself and others are the example I will always follow. Keep updating as much as possible and when up to it a full field report.i also recommend promotion to Sergeant  for LC TH for bouncing back and forward as the sunshine inside is hard to keep going even when sunny outside.

Would also suggest anyone who enlists is so at private level for a nominal fee of £29.99 which is to be paid into the following bank account: Sort code 090807 Account number 06050403 Account name I willingly make this payment under no duress from Corporal JP.

A bit slow recruitment wise so far I see well will in a minute when I find my glasses. Will have to use my spare pair that I only use to find my first pair unless I can't find my spare pair I use to find my first pair because then I have to wait till I find my first pair so I then can find my spare pair that I use to find my first pair. Which I still can't find.

So posters enlist today and get a free Sausage and Egg Mc'muffin and heres how. Buy the Mc'muffin to eat in and take to your chosen seat as close to condiments section as possible. Approach condiments when no one else is and take enough to cover amount of Mc'muffin. This idea was brought to you by

Join today and fight ParkyD and I promise not to post for a bit.

Over and out Corporal JP

P.S. About how many Pvt's in a bush. Well I once saw a f................

Good afternoon all on the front line,

A quick review of the battle lines.

The enemy attacks recently have been merciless for many of us. Fighting back is difficult. What do we have as weapons?
The chemical weapons our supply team have sent us, Levedopa with agonist(s) being our standard and a range of other agonists. But the bastard knows how to parry them.
Will power and determination. Very important and often effective, yet Parkinson ploughs through them sometimes.
DBS, and other invasive surgery, a good defensive weapon for some.

Immediate back up forces are important, partners, relatives, and friends are right behind us but never get attacked directly, yet feel the force of attack when it is severe.

Away from the front line we have our supply team. Usually fairly effective. Also our weapon selection team, who are dealing with thousands of troops and sometimes get it wrong.

Finally away from the battle zone we have -
The drug companies, suppliers, but making profits for shareholders their primary driving force. Also working with research teams to find new drugs.

The Parkinson’s research teams looking for new ways of producing actual dopamine cells and placing them in sufficient quantity into the Substantia Nigra for cure.
Or for prevention stopping the overactive release of Dopamine Cells.
A long way off I fear, yet he will be eliminated eventually.

Keep fighting
Jules77

Thanks for your dispatch Corporal JP. Will look into the recruitment issue.

Some good ideas there. Not sure about MacMuffin.

I could lose my commission over this.

Forgot to mention in dispatches, the very important front line troops. THE FUND RAISERS!

Currently under severe attack. Am diving fo cover.

Jules77

Sir,

Research,. I agree is important as we need to modernise our weapons in the fight against Parkinsons.

I wonder through reading research papers and articles whether the dopamine producing cells are dying/dead or just inactive.??

Research from my ill informed novice self seems to  me aimed at replacing dopamine or dopamine cells.  What if we can revive them?  I am thinking of drug addict r e covery programmes maybe similiar  pd recovery programm es .

There appears to be a link between gut health and pd, also inflammation of the brain. Foods can either be inflammatory or not so can diet reduce inflammation in our brains.

We all have our own views on what may be the answer and there will be troops who share the same view. Why do we need a research team to look at diet and its impact on progression, must we waste time waiting until this type of research project is funded and underway?

No !  something in my head asks the question, can troops fighting against pd form a unit where they stick to a diet agreed by the unit, keep a diary say over 6 mths to a year.  Regular check ups with own neuro or movement specialist who will check on progression of individual fighter.  Each individual from the unit then submits information whether they can evidence slowing down of progression or not.

This co operative approach to research should be considered?   I see an issue with different medical staff monitoring rates of progression but what if a physiotherapist agreed to join the unit  and assesed all the unit before, during and after?

I just feel I want to do something more than talk and fight my own battles.  I want to get together with like minded   fighters see if we can improve pd with diet exercise and provide evidence to others on the forum so they can make a choice.

The pd fighters slogan should be WHY WAIT, lets get some research done now.

Sir, I respectfully request your opinion on forming such a unit.  I have ranted on but do you think this is worthwhile? Some of our troops are having a bad time of it and I cannot do a thing to help but just maybe we can help the new recruits in this war.

Lcpl  Tee Hee

Here's one trooper waiting to join TeeHee in her mission! Feel she should be upgraded for her ideas. Let's all rally round and form our own regiment.

Twinks.

(Trooper With Inclination Needs Keen Support)!

Hey TH I think that is an amazing idea 'Sergeant TeeHee's R & D Squad' would be my choice for a name. II think how you acknowledge those having it bad is a great lift spirit wise and that is vital in the fight with this.

JP

JP and Twinks , we are 3 in the  new unit, lets see if we can muster some more troops.  JP the new picture is great.  I am a lance corporal, corporal JP and that suits me fine. I take the compliment JP but you are the highest rank in this unit. With Jules 77 having overall command.

Any ideas for recruitment we had a few more troopers at the start, they seem to be on unauthorised extended leave.

This new unit is specialised and requires commitment and strength of character.  It is the toughest unit and there is no shame in joining or remaining in this army in another capacity.  Whatever  unit , albeit specialist or regular ,we aĺl stand together, sharing a common enemy Parkinsons.

"We shall defend our health, whatever the cost shall be, we will fight in the gyms, we will fight against dark clouds that may descend upon us, we shall fight at all times,  we will fight the enemy PD on the streets and in our homes. We shall defend our health and wellbeing. We shall never surrender."

Unit vacancies follows:

Brilliant trooper twinks. xx

Hey LC Th, as we prepare for big push thought maybe do a squad anthem. My thought is Judas Priest Take on all the World, parkied up a bit of course, both of your thoughts.

C JP

Great idea,  we can record it and sell it to a radio station for PDUK funds , trouble is I cannot sing very well, but maybe it will be more fun that way...

Lcpl TH

Good Evening Troops,

Thank you for your dispatches.

We, under constant fire, as well as the support teams, know that the current range of chemical weapons including the virtually essential Levodopa are only partially effective and over time become less effective. They are not a cure yet do relieve PD symptoms, but need regular review as the disease progresses

Cure for those  with PD. Or stopping progress of PD when diagnosed:-

A civilian advisor of mine is of the opinion that that a pill, potion or patch will ‘never’ be able to convert cells to Dopamine cells within the body. Nor create new Dopamine cells.
Invasive surgery, such a DBS or duodopa can make a significant difference for some for a while.

It would seem one way  to cure would be the development of a system to create Dopamine cells in a lab either from stem cells, human cells or animal cells and somehow get them into the Substantia-Nigra. I know this is being worked on by our brilliant civilian boffins. There is no question of revitalising dormant cells TeeHee, I am led to understand they don’t exist. There are however neutral cells floating about in the body, but not convertible.

PD is, as I understand it, caused by aggregates of a single protein called Alpha-Synuclein. This protein forms aggregates that cause the neurodegeneration. So controlling this protein would, I hope, be another way to prevent further progression of PD. How this could be done is beyond my meagre brain but again is being worked on your our civilians.

Diet - There have been lots of claims about diet and the taking or non-taking of various natural substances or foods. Cutting down on protein has some empirical base for easing symptoms. More informed research is needed or the collection, referencing and analysis of     empirical data.

Then there are stimulants such as exercise, sport, yoga, creative stimuli (poetry, writing, etc, music, crosswords games. There is long list. Some help considerably.

Finally there is the bravery, stoicism, will power, refusal to give in and downright cussedness of all you brave troops, that make us feel humble and yet full of admiration.

Signing off now.

Keep fighting,
Jules77.

Dispatch notices:-
Lance Corporal TeeHee, is promoted from today to full Sergeant, responsible for Morale.
Trooper Twinks is promoted to Lance Corporal.
Corporal JohnnyParky and Sergeant TeeHee are awarded the OPF (Order of Parkinson Fighters) for services beyond the call of duty.

Sir,

Thank you for the promotion to Sgt and transfer to Morale. Whilst I still remain hopeful that dopamine cells may be capable of reactivation this appears to be on the "miracle" list.

However, listen up troops because we can still keep our brains as healthy as possible.  There are things that we   do that may accelerate cell death and this is where we are able to help ourselves.  Think of it as another weapon it might not kill the Parkinsons but delay the advance of the enemy.

Well troops, you will have to give me time to make some suggestions for change to your lifestyle.  I will reference any thoughts so you are able to read the necessary research papers or professional articles.  Remember troops there is no evidence to suggest that x or y works does not mean there is no evidence in terms of being final.

No evidence is a dynamic statement some else could do more research and then there might be evidence to alter viewpoints. Never say never, as hope is a positive state of mind.

Troops keep smiling we have a well balanced leader Jules 77, to keep us in check.  But, lets give it a go, information on sugar and meditation to follow.

Our unit is small but that does not mean we cannot do big things.  Cpl JP did a charity cycle ride after over 8 yrs after diagnosis , with a pronounced tremor and really tight lycra. We can eat an advocado now and again, surely?

Next briefing, within 7 days.

Sgt TH

Thank you so much for the promotion to Lance Corporal........I shall take my post very seriously!

I went straight into training this afternoon, by taking my trusty aid, (dog), for a 3 mile hike. We traversed rough ground, went through ploughed fields and crossed streams. The enemy was not in sight, which made things a lot better. Having taken medication before I set off, meant that I could complete my mission. All was mapped out and logged for future reference.

For several days now, I have been sussing out and observing information from 'Out-thinking Parkinson's '........it makes very interesting reading. They have a Facebook page too.

Tally ho.

Twinks.

LCpl Twinks,

I am pleased you are about to take your new role seriously, perhaps tally ho !,  is a fox hunting term rather than a ready to fight expression.  "over the top"  or "blimey, look at the  enemy" , " pack up your troubles in your old make up bag"  if you can refrain from wearing a red jacket and  riding boots on parade,  that would be great too.

On a more positive note, great to hear you out and about.  I must get fit myself  and need others to join in as  I am better as  a team member than an individual.

Lots of love Twinks  oop's

Carry on LCpl Twinks

Is this the recruitment office? I've been fighting on the Diabetes and Pancreatitis salients, so I have plenty of active experience. Well, sort of. Being medically qualified, I've never been in the front line, just skiving back at base. I'm not daft. So if you need a somewhat shop worn Medical Officer, I'm your manbig grin
