PD warrior core exercises

I’ve not had any alcohol yet since I’ve been on medication, think I’m worried it’ll make me feel even more sick than I do already… I’ve got the vodka ready though for when the sickness wears off :wine_glass::beers:

Hope you’re all having a fab weekend?

Hi Jayne,
I do the exercises at home too. Some more than others.
My consultant said my meds (dopamine agonist) have no affect on alcohol (or vice versa). But i feel drunk without drink most days so i have one drink on a Saturday night. That’s to make me feel that it’s all normal in the world. You certainly don’t feel like a drink when you’re nauseated

IHi all
I am newly diagnosed but working hard with exercises so very interested in all your experiences. I have been seeing neurophsio who has given a programme suited to me and I have just signed up for a gym program so that I can make better use of local gym facilities . I feel I need to do something to build up a sweat and have been doing step ups every morning for 10 minutes a time which is convenient.
I must admit to being scared about the future so I value all your experience. Keep on exercising mine is a chilled Pinot Grigio blush

Hi Scilly and cheers !

Welcome, sounds like you off to a good start.

Gals

Was OK with wine on DA’s. And now swopped them for sinemet still seem to be fine with wine. I think it might be an excuse but it relaxes me and my tremor stops. Xx

Scilly,

Lots of people on here to. support you, you have a sense of humour that is better than any medication. We all worry get a little scared but you have a long way to go yet… lots of good living to be had, exercise and bring on the endorphins ! Time for sleep, hope us gals hear from you soon.

Hi Scilly and welcome to the forum…

Exercise is definitely recommended by consultants and nurses and if you haven’t done already, try the PD warrior exercises, they’ve made a big difference to my movement and reduced the stiffness… You can find the core exercises on you tube, here’s a list to search for

Pd warrior:

• Skyreach
• Penguin waddle
• 007
• Over the river
• Scarf snatch
• Box step
• Stop and squat
• Tahdahs
• Overhead
• Warm up

The advice i had from my neuro physio was to just do a couple of the exercises a day to start with and build up the number of reps. Another exercise programme is LSVT big for PD also on you tube.

I try to focus on now rather than what may or may not happen in the future as none of us know what’s round the corner do we? I’m only recently diagnosed too but had it for some time I think. The exercise is definitely working for me; it makes me feel so much better, avoiding negative people and managing stressful situations also helps. Keep drinking the wine :wine_glass::clinking_glasses:

Wow missed all the chat
Wish I lived your area , can’t find any of pd warrior classes near me, only Sheffield area , NHS doing some did you say ,do I ask my specialist, I want to go swimming but nobody to go with and need a chat, up and down the lanes, lol ah well I need to get mobile so I can take myself, have to get a bike, now wouldn’t that be funny can’t walk a straight line at the minute , only when I’ve had a drink haha , god love reading your posts makes my day.
Especially at 5am !
Time for class
Here’s to a size 12 again
I wish :kissing_heart::wink::yum: Laneyx

Morning Laney… I thought it was just me awake at this ridiculous hour!

The class I go to isn’t advertised as PD warrior… the physio has done the training but it’s too expensive to run the course because of the licence fee. If you search for neuro physios in your area they might offer something similar. The NHS physio in Leeds also does some classes but there’s a long waiting list, PD nurse has referred me, so ask yours to let you know what is available. Follow the exercises on you tube though, at least it will get you started, just make sure you have a chair nearby if you’re unsteady on your feet, or better still have someone with you. Where do you live?

Not sure chatting and swimming counts as exercise, sounds more like a spa day haha… although that’s good for you too

The problem with all this exercise is that I’m always hungry, so dreams of a size 12 bikini for my hols in May could be a bit too ambitious… but definitely for my next hols in October, gives me something to aim for.

Just finished my cuppa and going back to bed… have a good day xx

Good morning Jayne
Always up around 4 to5:am lol unless I have CBD oil, ah ok I’ll try having a look, yes been doing a few pd warrior off the TV, haven’t got a pd nurse as yet specialist trying her best to hook me up with one in my catchment area, luck of the draw in my area good old rainy Manchester, wouldn’t mind a spa day :yum: getting pampered would be nice,no more biquini days for me ooh perish the thought , happy napping speak soon.

Hi all! Lovely sunny day and my 3 days off. About to do some stretches and pd warrior exercises at home then off for a coffee with a pal.
Hi Scilly and welcome. Got a nice group of positive and realistic gals on here. Don’t worry about about the future but think how you want to live now. Once you get a pd nurse they give you more time aand answer alot more than the consultant. I think anyway.
Have a nice Sunday, Teehee, Jayne and Laneystar!

Evening ladies. I have found the pd warrior exercises on you tube and they look good. I am interested in how much time you put aside for exercise . I don’t want to feel guilty watching call the midwife if I haven’t done enough!

Hi Laney

I met someone today from stockton heath who has PD and is trained in PD warrior. Not sure if that’s too far away from you? He does it on a 1 to 1 basis but doesn’t charge the earth like most of the private physios do. Let me know if you want his details and I’ll forward them on.

Hope you get sorted with a PD nurse soon, we’re very lucky in Leeds as we have a team of 4 and I’ve already got my next appointment booked for June.

Hi Scilly

I’m trying to do about 4-5 hours a week, but I think as long as you’re doing some and getting you’re heart rate up it’s better than nothing. I think I was told to do at least 45 mins 4 times a week but I can’t remember exactly. You could do some whilst watching call the midwife …

Hi Divine1

Sunny here too but still bloody freezing!!

I did my exercises this morning but find it a real struggle, I can come up with a million and one reasons to put them off until later! If only I had the same struggle eating cake!!

I’ve been to a support group today and met more lovely positive people… how was your catch up with your friend?

Enjoy your 3 days off x

Hi Jayne
Think that may be to far away, got head like a sieve, I’ve got an appointment with neuropsychology in April I’ve waited for 9 months so had forgotten all about it till I looked at calendar so hopefully will be helpful, I’m watching call the midwife and been out today so no excercise today feel so guilty :persevere: laney x

Hi all, had a lovely walk in the Park and coffee. Caught up with a few friends which was lovely. I do find it draining after a while though i know its good to interact.
Scilly, 2 1/2 hours per week is about the recommended amount of exercise. But as Jayne says any exercise is good. With the pd warrior exercises its more about effort put into the moves than repetition.

Hope you all had lovely weekend xx Laney:kissing_heart::kissing_heart::kissing_heart:
